How does ResearchTogether make money?
It does not. There is no subscription or paid plan, nothing is added to your AI bill, there are no ads, and your data is never sold.
Do I need an AI account of my own?
No. Reading, writing, marking up documents and Community work without one. For conversations, ReadFaster and Tutor, connect your own account or buy ResearchTogether credits: a one-time payment from $5 to $500, plus any tax added at checkout. Each request costs exactly what OpenAI or Anthropic charges for it at their published rates, we pay the card fees, and credits don’t expire. A key you add yourself is always used first.
Can I get unused credits back?
Yes. Email us and we refund unused credits to the payment method you used; deleting your account refunds them too. Credits already spent aren’t refundable. The terms have the details.
Which parts need OpenAI specifically?
ReadFaster, Tutor’s coaching, the Background agent and every agent in the browser use OpenAI: your own key, or credits for everything but the Background agent.
Can I use Opus or Codex for everything else?
Yes, in the Mac app. Talk, Plan, Auto and Tutor run on whichever connected account you pick when you write your message: Opus 5.5 with your Anthropic key or credits, or Codex with your ChatGPT plan.
Are there limits on the free service?
Each account can store 1 GB of what it writes, in files of up to 10 MB, and can create 50 projects and publish 20 versions a day. A project online holds up to 200 files. Projects kept only on your Mac have no limit from us.
Who pays when my agent works in someone else’s project?
You do. An agent runs on its own person’s AI account or credits, and what it writes counts against that person’s storage, whichever project it works in.
What does it cost when an agent runs code in the browser?
Nothing. Its commands run on a cloud computer that holds only that project, free for 10 hours a month per person; after that they wait for the next month.
Is Community free?
Yes. Reading public research needs no account; sign in with Google to follow, discuss, post requests and edit public projects.
Will there be a paid plan?
No subscription or plan is announced; credits are optional prepaid AI at cost. If that changes, this page will say so and the app will keep working without one.
